Background
Artists and Education formed in 2002 as a not for profit company limited by
guarantee we acquired status as a C.I.C (Community Interest Company) in December 2005. Previously based in Salford we have recently re-located to Manchester City Centre. We provide a number of services including; project management, continuous professional development, events management and research and consultancy, as well as developing, planning, delivering and evaluating arts residencies for artists, young people, and their teachers in mainstream and excluded education throughout the North West.
We currently hold a database of 100 plus artist and designer educators and have close links with a large consortium of schools throughout the North West. Through these links we are able to keep up to date with educational practice and concerns and have developed close working relationships with many key members of staff in local schools. The recently launched Regional Progression Network is coordinated by us and is a joint venture between the University of Salford, MMU and Greater Manchester Strategic Alliance (GMSA). We also work with NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design) as a regional subject adviser for the new secondary curriculum and with Arts Council England as Artsmark validators, both of which allows opportunities to work with schools demonstrating excellent practice throughout the North West.
Our work over the last six years has given us privileged access to a wide variety of schools, teachers and artists and has allowed us to devise and manage projects that have supported schools and artists in response to their individual needs. We have been able to develop close working relationships with school staff at all levels and we have always sought to work alongside staff through all stages of projects, from initial ideas to project completion or event and on to evaluation. This ensures continuity of provision and builds sustainability and development into a project
