About Artsmark

‘Artsmark is a national award scheme, managed by Arts Council England that recognises schools committed to the arts. Artsmark provides a benchmark for arts opportunities within the curriculum and out of hours so that children and young people have access to a wide range of experiences in art, dance, drama and music. Artsmark applications are a tool to enable teachers to complete a full audit of the arts in their school, and thereby recognise their strengths and weaknesses that will encourage development.
Artsmark aims to:
• raise the profile of arts education throughout England - within schools, arts organisations and communities
• encourage schools to increase the range of arts education provision in the curriculum and in out-of-hours learning activities
• promote effective partnerships between schools and arts practitioners and arts organisations
• ensure suitable professional learning opportunities in the arts are offered to staff
• provide a tool for schools to set achievable and measurable targets to develop’
